Left hails fall of Arjun Munda govt as positive development

New Delhi, Sep 15 (UNI) The Left parties today said the fall of the 18-month-old Arjun Munda-led NDA government in Jharkhand was a positive development as it paved way for the formation of the UPA regime in the state.

Talking to UNI, leaders of the CPI, CPI(M) and Forward Bloc expressed happiness over the political developments in the state saying the government formed allegedly on the basis of horse trading has finally collapsed.

CPI general secretary A B Bardhan and senior party leader D Raja accused the Arjun Munda-led government of being ''one of the worst, ineffective and corrupt governments''. ''It fell because of its own acts of omission and commission,'' they said.

''It is good for the state...But at the same time, we are sceptical about the survival of the new government...Ultimately, the state would have to go for a fresh mandate,'' the CPI leaders added.

CPI (M) genenral secretary Prakash Karat had earlier said mid-term elections would ultimately end instability in Jharkhand.

Forward Bloc national secretary G Devarajan also endorsed Mr Karat's opinion saying mid-term polls would end instability in Jharkhand.

The Left parties also took a serious note of the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh as it allowed state government employees to participate in RSS shakhas terming the saffron organisation as a social oufit.

On the Madhya Pradesh government's decision, CPI(M) floor leader in Rajya Sabha Nilotpal Basu said his party has always opposed any such decision.

He said,'' The Left disapproves of such decisions and urged the Centre to intervene in the matter.'' UNI KSA AK VA RS1544
