JIPMER strike continues, some medicare for outpatients
Pondicherry, Sep 15 (UNI) Even as the strike by JIPMER employees entered the eight day today, the hospital authorities managed to provide medical treatment to outpatients with the help of a few employees, who reported for duty this morning.
The JIPMER employees are on an indefinite strike to protest the Union Cabinets' decision to convert it into an autonomous institution.
As many as 120 nurses and 30 workers reported for duty and medical care being provided with their help at the casuality ward since the outpatients department remained closed.
The striking employees assembled before the JIPMER reception and shouted slogans demanding the revocation of the Union Cabinet's decision.
Meanwhile, JIPMER today conducted a walk-in interview to appoint temporary paramedical staff.
A large number of youths enthusiastically turned up for the interview, which would be conducted for the next three days.
JIPMER Director K S V K Subba Rao told mediapersons that despite the best efforts of the administration, medical services continued to remain affected following the strike forcing the administration to conduct the interview to ensure patient care in the hospital.
Mr Rao also assured police protection to those, who reported for duty.
