Bihar govt approves Most Backward Commission
Patna, Sep 15(UNI) To carry forward its "good governance" programmes, Bihar government today gave a go ahead for constitution of a state-level 'Most Backward Commission'.
Briefing the decision of the cabinet, state cabinet secretary A K Chauhan told mediapersons here that the Commission would survey the socio-economic conditions and educational scenario of the most backward population in the state.
It would assess the reasons behind the lack of development of the backward classes and suggested remedies too. The Commission has been given power to recommend either inclusion or deletion of any particular caste.
He said apart from a chairperson, the Commission would have four members and a member secretary. The Chairperson and Secretary would represent the most backward class with extensive knowledge of socio-political situation. Of the other four members, one would essentially be a social scientist.
The Cabinet has also approved expansion of Bharat Sugar Mills in Sighwaliya of Gopalganj district.
The capacity of the sugar mill would be expanded from 2300 TCD to 5000 TCD at an expenditure of Rs 137 crores. The cabinet sanctioned the proposal of the industry department for installation of a co-generation plant with 15 MW capacity.
Mr Chauhan further said that the cabinet gave green signal for construction of a sports complex and indoor stadium in Kankarbagh to promote the promising athelets.
