APCC condemns TDP, TRS allegation of diversion of water

Hyderabad, Sep 15 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee today denied the allegation of TDP and the TRS that power generation from Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar reservoirs was stopped so that water could be diverted to coastal and Rayalaseema regions for the second crop.

Talking to newspersons here, party spokesperson N Tulasi Reddy said 241.599 million units of power was generated from Srisailam from September 1 to September 14 2006 and 145.598 million units from Nagarjunasagar during the same period. Power production from both the reservoirs was more than what it was during the TDP rule, he maintained.

Mr Reddy said due to free supply of power by the Congress government, power consumption had increased. While power consumption which was 47,444.21 million units during 2003-04 when TDP was in power, it had increased to 51,1221.81 million units in 2004-05 and to 52,574.86 million units in 2005-06 after the Congress assumed power.

The Congress spokesperson also refuted the TRS allegation that injustice was being meted out to the Telangana region in power supply.

He said of the 2,337.07 million units consumed from September 1 to Septeember 14, 2006 in the entire state, the share of Telangana was 1296.33 million units, the share of the Coastal region was 659.77 million units and that of Rayalaseema was 380.77 million units.

It was strange that the TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, who said agriculture was a wasteful exercise when he was in power was now shedding ''crocodile tears'' about the difficulties faced by the farming community, he said.
