AICC threatens action against MP govt over RSS issue
New Delhi, Sep 15 (UNI) The Congress Party today termed as "unconstitutional" the action of the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh in lifting the ban on its employees joining the activities of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and threatened to go to the court, if required.
Congress Spokesman Satyavrat Chaturvedi told mediapersons here today that the RSS was a political organisation and not a "cultural organisation" as claimed by it and the BJP.
"We will oppose any move to politicise and communalise government servants. We cannot treat such attempts lightly," he said, adding that the party would launch agitation in in protest against the government decision.
The party also had plans to stage a dharna in front of the residence of the Chief Minister demanding the government reverse its decision. "If, required we will even go to the court," he added.
He, however, said the party would assess the situation. "We will wait and see what is the reaction of the government." In this context, he pointed out that BJP leader A B Vajpayee, when he was Prime Minister heading the previous NDA government, had asked the Gujarat government to reverse a similar order the Narendra Modi government had issued. The Congress Party then launched a nation-wide agitation.
The Shivraj Singh Chouhan government in Madhya Pradesh issued a fresh circular last month clarifying that the restriction on government servants joining any political party or such organisatgion do not apply to RSS. The ban was imposed earlier by the then Congress government.
