Wild card Kyra Shroff upsets top seed Maloo Parija

Chennai, Sep 14 (UNI) Continuing her unbeaten run, wild card entrant Kyra Shroff upset top seed Maloo Parija to storm into the under-18 girls singles semi-finals of the Wilson-TTT ITF Junior tennis championship here today.

In the other upset, second seed Allan Gomes of India was beaten by A S Suresh Krishna 1-6, 3-6 in the boy's singles quarterfinals.

In an all Indian affair, Shroff, playing like a girl possessed, dominated the nearly one hour encounter to score a comfortable 6-3, 6-3 win to meet qualifier T Nilaya in the girls under-18 semis.

Nilaya defeated another qualifier Nimisha Moha 7-6 (10), 6-0.

The other semifinal would be between fifth seed Kelsey Sundaram of United States and Rashmi Teltumbde of Maharashtra. While Kelsey defeated Prerna Bhambri 7-5, 6-1, Teltumbde halted the winning streak of Haruka Naito of Japan with a 6-3, 6-3 victory.

In the boy's singles Suresh Krishna disposed of Allan Gomes 6-1, 6-3 to meet qualifier Mansingh Athre in the semis. Athre defeated N Sriram Balaji 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

In other contests, Priyanka Gangadharan was involved in a tough battle before he got the better of Fariz Mohammed, 6-2, 2-6, 7-5.

Fariz, who conquered top seed Akash Wagh yesterday lost the big points in crucial stages to bow out of contention. Priyanka will meet Ankit Sachdeva in the last four stage. Ankit defeated Prateek Bhambri 6-1, 6-2.
