Two dead, 56 injured in accident, TMC, CPI(M) offer help
Bongaon, Sept 14: At least two people were killed and 56 injured in a road accident on the National Highway 35 (Jessor Road) at Jaypur near here in North 24 Parganas late last night.
The accident occurred when a truck carrying Trinamool supporters from party election rally overturned on its way back to Ferojpur and Jayantipur villages leaving at least 56 people injured seriously.
While most of the injured were immediately rushed to the Bongaon Subdivisional Hospital, 14 were referred to the city's S S K M Hospital late at night where two people succumbed to their injuries, according to the report reaching here this morning, police said.
All India Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee, who was returning to the city after addressing a couple of election campaigns, visited the hospital and expressed shock over the accident.
She had also asked the local partymen to provide all help to the victims and their families even in terms of money for their proper treatment.
West Bengal Finance Minister Dr Asim Dasgupta, who was also in the election tour campaigning for the CPI(M) candidate visited the hospital and told the hospital authorities to take special care for the injured.
The finance minister also said that he would send a medical team to the Bongaon hospital for assisting the authorities here.
