TN govt to release 472 life convicts on Anna's Birthday

Chennai, Sept 14 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government would release 472 life convicts, including 16 women, who had served ten years imprisonment, tomorrow on the occasion of 98th birth anniversary of Dravidian stalwart and former Chief Minister C N Annadurai.

An official relase said, the convicts, incarcerated in various prisons in the state were being released as announced by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on the floor of the Assembly, while replying to the demands by police and prison departments.

The practice of releasing life convicts on the occasion of Anna's birth anniversary had existed in the DMK regime, but dispensed during the previous AIADMK regime.

As per the guidelines laid by the government, the convicts were released with the approval of state governor S S Barnala, the release added.
