Standing Committee on coal unhappy over dealy in projects
New Delhi, Sep 14 (UNI) The Standing Committee on coal and steel has expressed displeasure over the delay in the completion of four projects by Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited (NLC) amounting to Rs 5,560.31 crore.
Committee chairman Ananth Kumar expressed unhappiness over delay in completion of projects saying it has resulted in cost over-run as well as non-utilisation of funds.
The committee further observed that out of eight new projects, only two had been sanctioned by the Coal Ministry. These were Mine-III of eight Million Tonnes Per Annum and 1000 Mega Watts Thermal Power Station.
The committee urged the Coal Ministry as well as NLC to spped up its work so that the projects can be completed on the stipulated time.
In the year 2005-06, NLC produced 151.01 lakh tonnes of lignite and generated 12,396 million units of electricity upto December last year.
