Sonia to select UPA leader in Jharkhand
Ranchi, Sep 14: UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi will decide on the Chief Ministerial candidate in Jharkhand after Mr Arjun Munda tendered his resignation to Governor Syed Sibtey Razi.
Senior office-bearers in the UPA told UNI here that Ms Gandhi had been authorised to take the final decision on the matter.
No sooner had Chief Minister Arjun Munda resigned without facing the floor test than the Opposition UPA in the state embarked on hectic parleys to decide the Chief Ministerial candidate.
Earlier, Coal Minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) supremo Shibu Soren told reporters here that the name of Chief Ministerial candidate would be announced after a meeting of the UPA partners.
The meeting began after the brief extended monsoon session in presence of Railway Minster Lalu Prasad, Union Food Processing Minister Subodh Kant Sahay, Ms Noor Banu (Cong), in-charge of Jharkhand, Rajya Sabha member from the state Mebel Rebello and other senior leaders.
Mr Soren said the UPA would stake its claim to form the government once the resignation of Mr Munda was accepted by the Governor.
Mr Madhu Koda, whose name as the Chif Ministerial candidate was announced yesterday by the Railway Minister, today said the matter would be decided in the UPA meeting.
