Punjab Assembly pays rich tributes to Bansi Lal

Chandigarh, Sep 14 (UNI) The Punjab Assembly today paid rich tributes to former Haryana Chief Minister Bansi Lal, National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Tribes Chairman Suraj Bhan and BJP leader Pramod Mahajan while mourning the death of prominent persons during the inter-session period.

The House also mourned the death of former MLAs Sajida Begum and Gurdev Singh Bakhshiwala, noted Punjabi Singer Surinder Kaur, shehnai maestro Bismillah Khan and fredom fighter Sardara Singh, Baj Singh, Bhagwan Singh Dua, Gurcharan Singh, Pritam Singh Khairajpura, Harnek singh and Tehal Singh.

Introducing condolence resolutions in the House, Deputy Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal lauded the contribution of departed political leaders, freedom fighters and famous artistes to the society and the nation.

Speaking on the resolutions, leader of the Opposition Parkash Singh Badal said their demise was a great loss to the country.

Mr Tikshan Sud (BJP) and Mr Sucha Singh Chottepur (Ind) also spoke on the resolutions.

The House extended deep and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

Assembly Speaker Dr Kewal Krishan associated himself with the feelings of the House which observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls.

The House was later adjourned till tomorrow.
