Orissa to set up National Law University
Bhubaneswar, Sep 14 (UNI) The Orissa government today decided to set up a National Law University on the lines of such University being established at Jodhpur, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Kolkata.
The cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik took the decision to set up the National Law University through an Act to be passed in the next session of the Orissa Assembly.
Briefing newsmen after the cabinet meeting, Chief Secretary Subash Pani said the National Law University was under the active consideration of the state government for quite sometime.
The government, he said, had already identified 30 acres of land near Cuttack for the University which would start functioning possibly from next year.
Mr Pani said the government would initially provide Rs 5 crores for the purpose and a detailed plan for setting up of the University would be worked out later.
The National Law University, he said, would have the autonomous structure with self financing provisions for various subjects.
