Normalcy restored in aided colleges of Manipur

Imphal, Sep 14 (UNI) Normalcy was restored in all the aided colleges after the teachers on strike under the aegis of All Manipur Government Aided Colleges Teachers' Association and All Manipur Government Aided Colleges Co-ordinating Committee called off the stir today.

Considering the immense trauma of the teachers and the students, the government has finally agreed to concede some of the demands of the teachers.

The teachers were on an indefinite hunger strike for past several days following which the students had threatened to self immolate for denial of education, sources said.

Yesterday three students, including a girl, were caught by police after they threatened of self-immolation, sources said.

The government in a meeting with the teachers and officials last evening assured to fill up vacant posts and release the arrears, payment of DA, official sources said.

A committee, headed by the Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh, would examine the allotment of additional posts on the basis of unsettlement status, and academic performance, sources added.

The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, Education Minister L Nandakumar, Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh and Commissioner of Higher Education P Bhorot.
