Mah Govt extends surrender scheme for Naxals by a year

Mumbai, Sep 14 (UNI) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil today said that the surrender scheme for Naxalites will be extended by a year.

Speaking at a meeting to review the anti-naxal steps being taken by the state government, Mr Patil, who is also the state Home Minister, asked the Border Road Organisation (BRO) to expedite the development works like roads and bridge construction in the Naxal- infested areas. Local police will provide protection if neccessary, he assured.

Mr Patil also asked District Collectors, CEOs and superintendents of police to ensure that the assurances given to local people in Naxal infested areas are fulfilled expeditiously and asked the administration to provide the required funds immediately.

He also asked for steps for creating awareness against the naxals among local people.

Mr Patil also discussed the nature of compensation given to local people, police killed or injured in naxal attacks, allowances given to commandoes, tendu leaves collection policy, awarding informers, setting up facilities of video conferencing between jails and courts in naxal areas.
