Magistrate suspended for beating wife

Agartala, Sep 14 (UNI) A first class divisional judicial magistrate of Udaipur in South Tripura was suspended from service for an indefinite period for alleged torture on his wife.

According to official sources here today, Guwahati High Court on the basis of a complaint filed by the wife of Mr Justice Somnath Chatterjee, suspended him from service temporarily.

Mrs Sharmishta Chatterjee, wife of the suspended officer, alleged her husband had been continuously torturing her physically.

She was forced to lodge a complaint with the R K Pur Police Station, who submitted charge sheet against the magistrate.

Mrs Chatterjee also took up the matter with the State Mahila Commission and the National Women Commission and sent a letter to the Guwahati Court Agartala Bench.
