Kolkata, Sep 14 (UNI) West Bengal has been receiving scanty rainfalls for the past few days though the weathermen predicted an active monsoon in the state up to the second week of October.

Kolkata had been experiencing no rainfall or very little rainfall since the last six days which in turn led the mercury to soar making the weather very hot and sultry.

The Met officials said,'' this is a brief monsoon condition and the monsoon is weak over the Gangetic West Bengal which is the prime reason for the humid climate.'' They also said the Seasonal Monsoon Trough over the North of the Gangetic Bengal is rapidly moving southwards and would reach the city in a couple of days.

Under the influence of the trough several parts of the state would receive heavy to very heavy rains, Met officials added.

However, they had forecast a partly cloudy sky with less possibilty of rain.

The maximum temperature recorded today was 33.5 degree Celsius and the minimum 27 degree Celsius.

The maximum relative humidity was 94 per cent.
