Jipmer employees continue strike
Pondicherry, Sep 14 (UNI) The employees of the Jipmer Hospital here continued their indefinite strike for the seventh day today and took out a massive procession through the main thoroughfares of the town to protest against the move to convert Jipmer into an autonomous institution.
The 2000 employees started their procession from Jipmer campus and reached the Bharathi park before Rajnivas where several leaders, including Jipmer anti-conversion peoples action committee president T Murugan addressed them.
A ten member delegation of the striking employees later called on Lt Governor Mukut Mithi and presented him a memorandum, seeking his intervention to hold discussions with Centre to drop the move to grant autonomous status to Jipmer.
Meanwhile, the processionists observed a dharna before the Rajnivas.
