JIPMER Action Panel calls for bandh
Pondicherry, Sep 14 (UNI) The JIPMER Anti-conversion Action Committee (JAAC) has called for a dawn-to-dusk bandh in Pondicherry on September 26 to protest against the conversion of the Centrally- administered organisation into an autonomous institution.
A decision to this effect was taken at a JAAC meeting here last night chaired by it's President and CITU Leader T Murugan.
It decided to organise meetings on September 19 in rural areas and on September 20 in urban areas on the issue. The JAAC also resolved to organise a demonstration before the head post office on September 22.
Meanwhile, the employees continued their strike for the seventh day today. They are scheduled to take out a procession from JIPMER to the Raj Nivas to present a memorandum to Lt Governor Mukut Mithi later in the day.
Police have registered cases against 70 JIPMER employees for gheraoing Director Subba Rao yesterday.
Police also warned of stringent action if employees resorted to any agitation inside the JIPMER campus citing a 2005 court order.
