International Rating Chess at Guwahati

Guwahati, Sep 14 (UNI) In a bid to promote and popularise the game in the North Eastern Region, Guwahati Chess Association, is organising Guwahati International Rating Chess Tournament(GITCT) 2006, from September 29.

Speaking at a press conference, the organising committee officials felt such a tournament would help produce more FIDE rated chess players from Asom and entire N E region and do well in the National Chess championship.

President of GIRCT Bibhuti Gogoi informed that the region's chess players have to go outside the state to participate in national tournament. This kind of rating tournament is rare in the entire region and would definitely help the players of the region. More than 200 chess players would take part in the tournament for 55 prizes. Noted chess player including R R Laxman, R Balasubramaniam from Tamil Nadu, Atunu Lahiri from LIC, Vravichandran from Southern Railways, L Imocha, Utpal Barua and Manoj Barua from OIL and many others from different parts of the country are expected to participate in the week long tournament.
