HM commander, jawan killed in Udhampur
Jammu, Sep 14 (UNI) An area commander of Hizbul Mujahideen and a Special Police Officer were killed and five jawans injured in an encounter in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Police sources told UNI that in a joint operation by the army and the police in Panara area this morning, militants opened indiscriminate fire on the troops as they cordoned the area.
The fire was returned killing the ultra. However, identity of the slain militant was yet to be ascertained, the sources added.
One AK rifle, a hand grenade and two magazines were recovered from him.
A member of the Village Defence Committee was also killed in the encounter.
The encounter was still on when reports last came in.
In another incident, security forces arrested a HM militant, Mohammed Shafi, from Kishtwar division of Doda district last evening. One 303 rifle, a magazine and four rounds were recovered from him.
