Heavy rains lash Delhi, more showers likely
New Delhi, Sep 14 (UNI) After experiencing dry weather for the past ten days, Delhi was lashed by heavy rains this morning, plummeting the mercury in the capital and bringing tremendous relief to people from the sultry conditions.
The heavy rains, which started at around 0500 hours, followed a heavily overcast sky since last night. About 30 mm of rainfall was recorded till 0830 hours, the weather office said.
The rainfall led to a sharp fall in the minimum temperature, from 26 degrees Celsius yesterday to 22.9 degrees Celsius today, which was two degrees below normal temperature.
More spells of rain are forecasted during the day with the weathermen predicting a generally cloudy sky with possibility of thundershowers in some parts of Delhi during the next 24 hours.
Today's showers broke the more than-a-week's lull in rainfall activity in the capital, after a heavy spell in the last week of August which saw the city receive nearly 210 mm of rainfall.
