Goa to open 'Rural Business Hubs' to market village products

Panaji, Sep 14 (UNI) Goa Government has decided to open what it termed 'Rural Business Hubs' soon as part of national programme to boost marketing of village-made handicrafts and agro-products such as pottery, brassware, cashenuts, carpentry and other items.

Such hubs would be set up in Bicholim, Sattari, Pernem, Quepem, Canacona and Ponda taluks to start with.

These decisions were taken at a meeting of the RBH council chaired by Panchayati Raj Minister Subhash Shirodkar in the city today. The council also discussed various aspects of marketing of products like the packaging, financing, training, identification of the beneficiaries and their status before going ahead with the scheme.

The programme, according to the minister, will promote entrepreneurship in rural areas which in turn augment the rural economy.

The scheme also explores the possibility of human resources development through training of youth so that they could undertake repairs of TV sets and mobile phones, he added.

The panchayats will be involved in identifying the beneficiaries for the purpose, he said.
