Flag meeting between BSF and BDR held

Agartala, Sep 14 (UNI) A flag meeting between the Border Security Force (BSF) and Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) was held at Khowai in Tripura's West District recent regarding resumption of works for the embankment on the Khowai river and barbed wire fencing along the international border.

Official sources here said though no solution came out of the Flag Meeting, it was decided that a joint survey will be held by both the river bordering areas, authorities will resume works in the area which remained suspended since September eight following BDR's objection.

Besides, it was also decided in the Flag Meeting that steps will be taken to solve the problem through the Joint River Commission. The work for Joint Survey is expected to take place shortly for which Bangladesh once finalises the date will inform its Indian counterpart.

''The work for the construction of embankment on Khowai river and fencing would continue where there was no objection from the BDR,'' official sources said and added that the BDR objected to continue work in Durganagar area alleging that the work taken up is within 137 metres. However, the Indian side said work was going on as per international law and well outside 137 metres'', sources added.
