Controversy: Kashmir police seize copies of national dailies

Srinagar, Sep 14 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police today seized all the copies of three national dailies here reportedly for publishing an article against Islam.

Official sources said police seized all the copies of Hindustan Times (HT) from the office of a local newspaper agent immediately after they reached Srinagar by road from Jammu.

A newspaper agent Ghulam Mohiuddin said that police also seized the copies of the Pioneer from his office.

Police also seized the copies of Times of India from the airport, official sources said.

Mr Mohiuddin said no reason was given by the police for seizing the copies of the newspaper.

Though no official reason was given for seizing the copies of three national dailies, it is reported that they have published a statement of Pope against Islam.

Since the statement could have hurt the sentiments of the Muslims and created a law and order problem, the authorities seized all the copies of the newspapers keeping in view the sentiments of the community, sources said.
