Chandy blames LDF Govt for wasting time on college issue

Palakkad, Sep 14 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly Oommen Chandy today termed the decision of the Left Democratic Front government on the self-financing professional medical college fees issue as ''wisdom that came late.'' Talking to reporters here, he said the Opposition United Democratic Front had suggested the 50:50 formula much earlier, but the issue was taken to courts wasting time and money.

Mr Chandy said when the draft of the self-financing professional colleges bill was prepared the UDF had pointed out the loopholes in the legislation. However, the government paid no attention to the suggestions put forward by the Opposition.

Demanding admission to all students who had completed counselling and remitted fees, he said the formula should be made applicable to engineering, B Ed and nursing colleges also.

Regarding the disclosure of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa that the Congress at the Centre had put pressure on her to release PDP chairman Abdul Nazar Madani on bail, Mr Chandy said the people in Kerala should realise that the Congress had worked sincerely on the issue.
