BSP to oppose H-K Liberation Day celebrations
Gulbarga, Sep 14 (UNI) The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) today announced that it would oppose the proposed Hyderabad-Karnataka region Liberation Day celebrations, to be held here on September 17.
Addressing a press conference here, State BSP General Secretary Shivalanka Prakinoor alleged that some communal forces were trying to cash in on the Liberation day, to which the BSP was opposed.
''We celebrate August 15 as Independence Day. Then where is the need for celebrating freedom day for H-K region alone, he asked.
Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa were slated to participate in the event.
Mr Prakinoor said the party would stage a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office to protest against the celebrations, besides organising a black flag protest if the Chief Minister took part in it.
''It is nothing but provoking a section of the people by celebrating H-K region Liberation day after half a century. We appeal to the Chief Minister not to participate in the programmes,'' he said.
