'Bedrock of business must be integrated values'

Ahmedabad, Sept 14: Integrity, Commitment, Passion and Seamlessness that signifies thinking and working together must coalesce into ideology and Only when all the four values are harmonised does an organisation fetches rewards, said Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairman, Aditya Birla Group.

Speaking at a seminar ''Values: the Driving Force for Success'' at the HT Parekh Convention Centre here on the 50th anniversary of Ahmedabad Management Association, Mr Birla in his opening remarks said that Dr Vikram A Sarabhai had demonstrated in his own life his conviction that the ultimate end of all scientific endeavour was peace and prosperity and the full release of human creative potentials. ''His vision of human society and his ethos rightly applies to business of today,'' Mr Birla said yesterday.

Maximising value should be the prime objective. Superior value leads naturally to set of values. ''Unfortunately world of business today is passing through a crisis of trust. ''People today are searching the soul of a corporation to find the values,'' Mr Birla added.

Praising the entrepreneurial genius of Indian business, he said ''we have a home grown spirit of entrepreneurship while China does not have one in the stature of Ambani or Birla. Our industry's strength is entrepreneurship,'' he added.
