1545 cheques distributed among earthquake victims as 2nd installment

Srinagar, Sep 14 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir government has released the second installment of Rs 30,000 each in favour of 1545 victims of October 8 kiler quake at border area of Karnah, an official spokesman said today.

He said the District Development Commissioner, Kupwara Abdul Majid Khanday distributed 1545 cheques among earthquake victims of Karnah sub-division as 2nd installment of Rs 30,000 per family at Karnah.

He said the distribution of first installment of Rs 40,000 per family has been completed while the distribution of 2nd installment commenced from August 2006.

The construction material has been made available to the locals at Karnah by the government. About 3737 cft of timber have been made available to quake affected people of which 1811 cft of timber have been distributed for construction purposes so far.

Three link roads have also been completed under NABARD in the sub division, he said.

Regarding the stock and supply position, he said that adequate quantity of essentials are available in the sub-division which include 18468 quintals of rice, 653 quintals of sugar and 38500 litres of kerosene oil for winter months as the area remains cut off from the rest of the state due to snowfall.
