Trial court asked to ensure speedy trial

Patna, Sep 13 (UNI) A single judge bench of Patna high court today asked the special vigilence court to dispose of the cases against former District Magistrate Gautam Goswami within four months.

Rejecting a regular bail petition for Dr Goswami, Mr Justice Chandramauli Kumar Prasad, however, directed the petitioner to approach the high court again in the event of failure on the part of the trial court to dispose of the cases.

Responding to a query of the court, the counsel for prosecution Y B Giri said chargesheets had since been submitted against all the accused in the multi crore rupees flood relief scam and the special vigilance court had taken cognizance of them.

Dr Goswami is lodged in prison in connection with the flood relief scam which occurred in 2004 during flood relief operations.
