Committee formed to maintain weigh bridge at Ottinene
Udupi, Sep 13 (UNI) The weigh bridge, reinstalled by the Mine Export Owners Forum at Ottinene on the border of the district after a prolonged public protest, will be maintained by a Committee chaired by the Assistant Commissioner and having Mysore Minerals Limited (MML) Manager as Member-Secretary.
Announcing this to newspersons here, Udupi Deputy Commissioner Ponnuraju said adequate police personnel would be deployed at Ottinene to ensure that every manganese ore-laden lorry was weighed at the weigh bridge before entering the district enroute to the New Mangalore Port Trust. Excess load of ore would be unloaded at the nearby vacant site and later auctioned, he added.
He said the Committee would also be entrusted with the task of collecting a fee of Rs 30 per lorry from tomorrow, which would be handed over to MML for exclusive maintenance. MML would, at a later stage, take up the responsibility of collecting the fees, offloading the excess load ore and payment to the Government, besides maintenance.
