Banned drug "Ketamine" seized from Chennai airport

Chennai, Sep 13 (UNI) The customs officials at Meenambakkam Airport have seized two parcels of scheduled drug ''Ketamine'', which had been banned in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and China.

According to an official release here today, the custom officials, who had intensified survciclance, following an intelligence report that the banned drug was smuggled out of India from Chennai via Mumbai through courier, identified two parcels of the drug weighing 56 kgs and worth at Rs 2.25 crore in the international market.

The parcels were booked to Shabab Palace, Dongri, Mumbai by one Mohamed Khan, Angappa Naicken Street, Chennai through M/S Balaji Onboard Couriers via Indian Airlines flight IC-174. But, the subsequent investigation found, both the addresses were fictitious, the release said.

As per the release, this was the biggest ever seizure of Ketamine effected in Chennai.

Further investigations were on to track the consignor's and consignee's whereabouts, the release added.
