CRISIL engaged to study infrastructure requirements in Bengal

Kolkata, Sept 12 (UNI) The West Bengal government has engaged CRISIL to study the emerging needs of infrastructure in the state, Commerce and Industry Minister Nirupam Sen said today.

" CRISIL will study the infrastructure needs and prepare a document. The report will be submitted within two months," Sen said during a CII seminar on "Logistics East".

CRISIL has been asked to give special emphasis on the infrastructure requirements in North Bengal, which would become a major trading hub with the opening of the Nathu la, he said.

The "investor-friendly" policies of the state government had attracted implementation of projects involving investment of Rs 2230 crore during 2005, the minister said.

Altogether 65 major projects with total investment of Rs 8927 crore in different sectors were under implementation, Sen said.

These projects exclude the sectors like power, infrastructure, mining, housing, telecommunication and township development, he said.

The state is also giving focus in areas like automobiles, infrastructure development, chemical, tourism and health, he added.
