Visva Bharati sets-up three-member committee to probe assault case
Santiniketan, Sep 11 (UNI) The Visva Bharati today constituted three-member committee led by Vidya Bhavan Principal Ganapati Subbaiah to look into the Australian professor assault case.
Visva Bharati's Indo-Tibetan Department Head, Andria Losari, was allegedly assaulted by her department reader and lecturer in the varsity here yesterday.
She had lodged a complain with the Bolpur police station that she had been physically and mentally assaulted by Reader Dr Namgayal and lecturer Prakriti Chakrabarty.
The committee will present its report soon.
Police have started an inquiry into the matter.
Meanwhile, lecturer of Indo-Tibetian Department Prakriti Chakraborty lodged a complaint at Bolepur police station against Dr Andria Losari.
She alleged Losari mentally tortured her for a long time.
Ms Losari had earlier complained to police that she had a confrontation with Ms Chakrabarty and Dr Namgayal over pasting of a notice on the department's board today. She said she was physically assaulted by Dr Namgayal soon after pasting the notice.
Ms Losari, was appointed in the Indo-Tibetan department from June this year for a one-year contract when Sujit Bose was Vice-Chancellor of the University.
Others in the committee are Professor Shelly Bhattacharya and Professor Alpana Roy.
