Police officer, LeT militant killed, RDX recovered in J

Srinagar, Sep 11 (UNI) A Special Police Officer (SPO) and a militant of Pakistan based Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) were killed and 3 soldiers and a ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) worker where in the Jammu and Kashmir ovenight.

Security forces recovered war like stores, including grenades, detonators and RDX in the state.

Official sources said security forces killed a foreign militant of LeT Nadeem alias Waleed, a resident of Pakistan, in an encounter at Nehru Bagh in Bandipora area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district.

The encounter ensued after a search party was attacked by the militants, sources said, adding an AK rifle and other arms and ammunition were seized from the slain ultra.

An official spokesman said a SPO Abdul Hamid, who was injured in a mine blast at Katapora in south Kashmir yesterday, died in the hospital.

Militants shot at and wounded a PDP worker Ghulam Mohammad Ganai at Hassanpora Bijbehara of south Kashmir's Anantnag district last night.

Ganai was shifted to hospital in a critical condition, sources said.

Three soldiers were injured when militants attacked a search party at Kandi in the frontier district of Kupwara last night.

Troops recovered a war like stores, including hundreds of grenades, detonators, explosives and other arms and ammunition near the Line of Control (LoC) in the frontier district of Kupwara, a Defence Ministry spokesman said.

He said troops on a specific information launched a search operation at Muthul Nala, near the LoC in Machil sector early this morning.

After an intensive search, mostly dense forest, troops finally unearthed three hideouts where arms and ammunition were dumped by the militants.

The arms and ammunition recovered included 429 detonators of different types, two AK rifle, ten kg explosives, three UBGL, 161 UBGL grenades, 22 Anti Tank grenades, seven hand grenades, two 107 RCL bombs, six IED boxes and 1300 rounds of ammunition.

He said the arms and ammunition was in the hideouts to be used in the winter by the militants against security forces in north Kashmir. However, no one was arrested, he said.

Security forces and police in a joint operation recovered 35 kg of deadly RDX, four IED switches, five meters of cordex wire, 220 rounds of ammunition and one wireless set at Thanamandi.
