Mysterious man surfaces in Kashmir; slit throats of children

Srinagar, Sep 11 (UNI) Panic gripped many parts of Jammu and Kashmir's summer capital today following reports that a ''mysterious person'' had slit the throats of several children.

Police said Mubarak Ahmed Shah, a student of Gousia Public School, Khanyar in the downtown city, was attacked by the ''mysterious person'' with a razor, who slit his throat.

Shah was immediately rushed to the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Hospital at Rainawari here where his condition was stated to be critical. He had eight stitches on his throat.

Police said another nine-year-old boy, Yasir Iqbal, a resident of Kalashpora in the downtown city, was also attacked by the ''mysterious man'' who slit his throat.

Iqbal had been admitted to the Sri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital here where his condition was stated to be out of danger.

Police said the ''mysterious man'' was 5 ft 9 inches tall, in his late 20s and may be insane.
