Mizoram to setup Navodaya Vidyalaya Schools

Aizawl, Sep 11 (UNI) Mizoram government has worked out a new plan to setup Navodaya Vidyalaya (NV) schools across the state.

In a meeting headed by the state Education Minister Dr R Lalthangliana, officials discussed setting up of Navodaya Vidyalaya schools in all the districts of the states, official sources here today informed.

At present there is only one regularised NV school in the state which is located in Thenzawl in Serchhip district.

Lands have been allocated for NV school in Champhai and Saiha districts on temporary basis but schools have not been set up.

Land area between 10-30 acre is required for the a NV school and the state government is expected to meet the primary requirements and accommodations for the workers.

Except in Tamil Nadu, NV schools have been set up all over the country. Of the 582 districts in India, can accommodate about 600 students (400 boys and 200 girls) from of classes VI-XII.

An NV school had been set up in Lunglei and Lawngtlai back in 1998 but were later closed down due to inadequate number of students. Only 38 and 22 students respectively had been acquired by the schools, the sources added.
