Mizoram govt issues fresh orders on tobacco prohibition

Aizawl, Sep 11 (UNI) The Mizoram government has re-imposed a ban on tobacoo and its related products' selling and consumption in public places in the state.

An order issued by the Aizawl District Magistrate confirmed the fresh prohibition notice on sales of cigarettes and other tobacco products within 100 yards of an educational institution to people below 18 years of age.

The prohibition has also banned smoking in public places such as airports, hospitals, schools, libraries and in public transport vehicles, including taxis.

Earlier, with the instruction of the apex court, the state government had banned smoking in public places, but it was not followed expectedly in the state, which compelled the authorities to issue a fresh order.
