I do not need ministerial position to work in politics:Supriya Sule
Mumbai,Sep 11 (UNI) Categorically ruling out any ministerial ambitions, newly elected Rajya Sabha MP from Maharashtra Supriya Sule today said that it was possible to work as a political activist without holding any post.
Addressing a press conference after being formally declared elected in the by-election necessitated due to the death of sitting NCP MP Vasant Chavan, Supriya, who is the only child of NCP president and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, said she wanted to be known as a good activist and her focus would be on work,no matter whether it is at the state or the Central level.
''I am here to work on causes close to my heart like women's empowerment, education, health care and get results. Getting ministerial berths or party posts is insignificant. I have been working as a social activist for the last five years and that would be my base in politics,'' she said.
''I will try my best to be a good parliamentarian and raise all the issues which I firmly believe in the Parliament and get them on the debate table,'' she added pointing out that getting a Rajya Sabha berth soon after her induction into the NCP since July 17 was just because the seat fell vacant due to the sudden death of Vasant Chavan.
Responding to a query on the post of Chief Minister which her father has held for four terms, Supriya said, she had no ambitions in this direction.
