Health services in JIPMER paralysed for fourth day

Pondicherry, Sep 11 (UNI) Medical services at the centrally administered JIPMER hospital here were totally affected for the fourth day today, following an indefinite strike by the employees.

The employees launched the stir on Friday to protest against the move to make JIPMER an autonomous institution for which the Union Cabinet had recently given approval.

The striking employees staged dharna in front of the Reception counter sans inpatients as all of them had shifted to other hospitals. The outpatients also kept away from the hospital for treatment.

Tension prevailed when five women employees of the administration department were prevented by the striking employees from entering the hospital, forcing police intervention. The striking employees asked the police to stay away, saying they would sort out the matter themselves. Later, the women employees too joined the stir.
