Chawla reviews progress of photo electoral rolls

Madurai, Sep 11 (UNI) Chief Election Commissioner Navin Chawla today reviewed the progress of Photo Electoral Rolls being prepared for the Madurai Central Assembly constituency, to be used for the first time in the state in the ensuing bypoll.

Mr Chawla, who arrived here yesterday, held discussions with the officials earlier in the day on the methodology employed in this task. He expressed satisfaction over the progress of the work.

Later, talking to newspersons, he said 72 per cent of the work related to the preparation of the Photo Electoral Rolls has been completed.

Impressed by the methodology used in the preparation of the photo rolls, Mr Chawla said he would recommend it as a model for the ongoing work in other parts of the state.

The draft photo electoral rolls have been released earlier. The Election Commission had decided to use them on a pilot basis in the coming byelection, that had been necessiated by the death of DMK leader P T R Palanivel Rajan.
