Vehicles banned in the vicinity of Mahalaxmi temple in Kolhapur

Kolhapur, Sep 10 (UNI) Although security had been beefed up two days ago around Mahalaxmi temple here following the twin-blasts at Malegaon on Friday, an order to ban vehicular traffic leading to the temple has been issued as an additional security measure.

District Superintendent of Police Sukhwinder Singh issued the order for security reasons, police sources said.

The order which is being undertaken on an experimental basis till September 25, will come into effect from today.

As per the order, heavy vehicles and Kolhapur Municipal Transport (KMT) buses have been prohibited from using the route leading to the temple and traffic has been diverted.

Also devotees visiting the Mahalaxmi temple have been prohibited from parking their vehicles outside the temple. However, vehicles of police and government officials are exempted from the ban and can move in the prohibited areas, police sourcse added.
