UNLF leader taken back to Manipur
Coimbatore, Sep 10 (UNI) The General Secretary of the banned insurgent organisation United National Liberation Front (UNLF), Ibotombi, alias Tombi, alias Sunil, and his assistant Salam Bank, who were arrested here on September 5, were taken to Manipur by a special flight with heavy security.
Police sources said the flight left Peelamedu airport here around 1000 hrs today. The leader of the banned outfit facing various cases at Imphal was accompanied by Manipur police led by SP Dhanakumar Singh and his nine member team of police officers.
It may be recalled that Ibotombi and his associate had come to this city last month to undergo a spinal cord surgery in a private hospital.
When Ibotombi spoke to his group through cellphone, the army intelligence intercepted the conversation and found out that the wanted leader was in a city hospital for medical treatment. The army intelligence officers immediately alerted Manipur and the city police.
The city police kept a secret watch on Ibotombi in the hospital till a police team from Manipur arrived and arrested Ibotombi and his assistant Salam Bunk.
The UNLF General Secretary and his assistant were produced before a court here on Tuesday last and lodged in the central prison.
After completion of the formalities, the Manipur police took custody of the two insurgents, the sources added UNI KS SP KP1221
