Two militants among 3 killed in Kashmir, 2 hostages rescued
Srinagar, Sep 10 (UNI) Security forces killed two militants and rescued two people taken hostage by an ultra while a civilian was shot dead in south Kashmir since last evening, police said today.
A police spokesman said security forces launched a joint search operation in Dadaran village of Kulgam area in south Kashmir's Anantnag district this morning following a tip off.
On noticing the security forces, a militant hiding in a 'dhok' opened fire on them with automatic weapons which was effectively retaliated.
The spokesman said in the ensuing gunfight, the militant, identified as Mubashir Ahmed alias Saifullah of the Hizbul Mujahideen outfit, was killed.
The militant had also taken hostage two civilians who were later rescued by the security forces.
An AK-47 rifle, two magazines and seven rounds were also seized from his possession, he added.
In another encounter, the spokesman said the security forces killed a militant, Yaseen Pathan, a resident of Rajouri in Jammu region, at Dunadoo village, Keller in south Kashmir last evening.
One AK-56 rifle, two magazines and five rounds were seized from the encounter site, he added.
The spokesman said Harkat-Ul-Jehadi Islami (HUJI) militants killed a civilian, Mohammad Mumtaz Pathan, a resident of Kukarnag, in the Anantnag district.
Police were investigating the case.
