Sumit creats twin national records in FITA round

Jamshedpur, Sep 10 (UNI) Promising local archer Sumit Mishra created double national records in cadet boys compound FITA round on the penultimate day of the 3-day Archery Selection Trial for Indian team at the JRD Tata sprots complex here today.

Sumit, a cadet of Arjuna Archery Academy (AAA) of Kharsawan, scored 1373 points in the overall FITA round, shattering the previous national record of Renso Purti (1364 points).

Sumit also broke the national record of Purti in 60 meter range of the second FITA round, scoring 350 points. He bettered Purti's 346 points. Sumit was just three points behind the world record of Gellenthien Braden of United States, who scored 353 points in Archery World Championship-2002.

In the boy's recurve round, Mangal Singh scored 1346 to top the ranking while Jayanta Talukdar and Arjuna Awardee Tarundeep Rai were placed second and third with 1355 and 1326 points respectively.

Arnjuna awardee Dola Banerjee of Railways had to be satisfied with the second rank in the women's recurve category while Chekrovolu Swuro secured top rank with 1296 points and Reshma Banerjee bagged 3870 points for third position.

In the women's FITA round, Jhanu Hansda of Jharkhand, who bettered world record in the compound round yesterday, scored 1333 points to secure top spot while Bhagyabati Chanu and Manjudha Roy, both from Jharkhand, got second and third spot with 1310 and 1311 points respectively.
