New shooting range in Dwarka to scout more Rathores and Bindras
New Delhi, Sep 10 (UNI) Shooting received another shot in the arm after a new shooting range, with an Arjuna awardee marksman behind the project, coming up at Dwarka here today.
World champion Manavjit Singh Sandhu today inaugurated fellow marksman Naresh Sharma's six-lane Dwarka Air Gun Shooting Club range, which is the first ever of its kind to be developed by an individual.
''It is an example to show that a small space is enough to start a 10m shooting facility in close vicinity of residential colonies that are easily accessible to the public. Such a concept will certainly make the sport more accessible to people interested in getting into shooting sports,'' Mr Sharma told UNI.
The six-lane indoor shooting range is equipped with air rifles and air pistols for training. There are different membership fee structures with discounted rates for school students. The range will be open on all seven days a week and the timings have been kept from morning till late evenings keeping in view the availability of people.
The club will also tie up with the neighbourhood schools to extend the facility to their school students, Mr Sharma informed.
Mr Sharma won the Arjuna Award in 1998 in the physically handicapped category for his exploits in the pistol events before he switched to the rifle events in order to compete with the open category shooters. He now competes at the national and international levels in the 50m Rifle Prone Men event.
