Mizoram records 90.14 percent literacy rate
Aizawl, Sep 10 (UNI) Mizoram Education Minister Lalthangliana today announced that the state has recorded 90.14 per cent literacy rate.
The minister appealed to the people to participate in the programme for promotion of adult education, so as to achieve highest literacy rate in the country by 2006.
The literacy rate during 2004-2006 was 61.27 per cent, he added.
Dr Lalthangliana, quoting 'India Today' magazine, said the state has been rated first among the 12 eastern states to have the highest literacy rate.
''High literacy percentage alone is not the criteria for development of a state'', he added.
