Joshna bags 6th national title, Saurav Ghosal wins men's crown
New Delhi, Sep 10 (UNI) Country's top squash player Joshna Chinappa pummelled Dipika Pallikal in straight games to lift her sixth national title, while Saurav Ghosal tamed giant-killer Gaurav Nandrajog in similar fashion to win the men's crown in the 54th inter-state championships here today.
It was a repeat of the SAF Games final in the women's final and once again, Joshna's experience made all the difference as she toyed with her younger rival before thrashing her 9-2, 9-5, 9-4.
Joshna moved faster and better to cover the court and her supple wrist unleashed drop shots at crucial times with Dipika found wanting. Joshna was clearly superior in rallies and managed to hit the nick on a couple of occasions.
Dipika tried everything she could but the gap was just too big and despite the defeat, she returned rich with experience.
In men's final, Gaurav Nandrajog was not second time lucky today.
The Tamil Nadu lad, who pulled off the biggest upset of the tournament by beating world number 41 Ritwik Bhattacharya in the semifinals yesterday, proved no match for a fast-improving Saurav Ghosal who beat him 9-3, 9-2, 9-6.
