J and K minister visits flood-affected areas of Kathua district

Jammu, Sep 10 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Minister of State for Public Health Engineering Romesh Sharma visited flood-affected areas of Hira Nagar and Billawer in Kathua district.

At Chaba Check near River Ujj, about 40 'kanals'of land has been 'damaged' due to the floods. Superintending Engineer (Hydraulic) Kathua told the minister there was an immediate need of Rs 60 lakh for construction work.

The minister directed the engineers of the flood control department to take up the repair work of all vulnerable spots on war-footing. He asked the engineers to remain present in their headquarters and solve the problems of people badly affected with recent flood and incessant rains.

Later, he visited Billawar and took stock of the damages caused due to the flash floods. During the visit, a delegation met the minister and demanded immediate repair and renovation of the damage protection walls of Bini Nallah. Dr Sharma asked the engineers to immediately start the repair work of Bini Nallah.

He said the state government has already sent a proposal for Rs 27 crore to the Centre for the construction of crates and concrete walls along the rivers.

The minister said after receiving the funds from the Centre, major repair and renovation work of crates will be started.
