Patna, Sep 10 (UNI) Senior CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta today demanded that the Centre should frame comprehensive laws for protecting the interests of labourers in agriculture and unorganised sectors.

Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Gupta said that labourers in the unorganised sector is facing hardship in the era of liberisation and new economic policies.

''New laws should be enacted to protect the interest of labourers and ensure payment of guaranteed wages, medical facilities, pension and other social security measures,'' he added.

Mr Gupta, secretary of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), said that a rally would be taken out in New Delhi on November 23 in support of the demands for protecting the interests of the labourers.

Expressing his reservation on economic policies of the UPA government, he alleged that the Centre has intended to pursue the policies of earlier NDA government but it could not succeed due to pressure from Left parties, ''Not a single bill has been passed by Parliament without support of the Left parties,'' he said adding several bills were put in cold storage due to stiff resistance from left alliance.
