Congress fears disturbance, demands security near assembly

Ranchi, Sep 10 (UNI) The Congress Jharkhand Unit today demanded adequate security arrangements for UPA's proposed 'Assembly Gherao' rally tomorrow.

Party's general secretary Anadi Brahm, in a letter to the Chief Secretary, requested him to make proper security arrangment in and around the state assembly in view of UPA's rally.

Copies of the letter were also sent to the DGP and Superintendent of Police, Ranchi.

Mr Brahm alleged that the state government has hired 'anti socials' from Dhanbad, Bokaro, Jamshedpur and other areas to sabotage the rally and asserted ''party workers are also ready to retaliate in case of any trouble.'' He told UNI that Congress with other UPA partners, would begin rally at about 1100 hrs, and gherao the assembly to demand fair trial on three legislators, who have been served show cause notices under Anti-Defection Law by Speaker Inder Singh Namdhari.

He said all the party workers across the state have been asked to ensure the success of the rally.

The Opposition parties have been protesting the Speaker's notices to three MLAs -- Mr Kamlesh Singh, Anos Ekka and Stephen Marandi. All of them have joined the UPA fold to form an alternative government in Jharkhand.
